Willy-Els te Boekhorst, 1958

This primary school teacher, living in Apeldoorn, was fond of music since her
youth. Having three children required a break from music for a couple of years.
When they started growing up, there was time again to continue the music. She
started playing saxophone in the `Fanfare Eendracht' and other ensembles.
One of those ensembles asked their members for arrangements, so Willy-Els
started arranging. She wasn't really content with her results and looked out for
a teacher. One day, she met Norbert Wissing while travelling by train. Norbert
offered to give lessons and encouraged Willy-Els to start composing which was
more challenging.
Her first performed piece was an arrangement of Disney's 'Jungle Book' called
`Mars door het Oerwoud', and was played by the 'Fanfare Eendracht'. Compositions
of her are `Kringspel', to be performed by a wind quintet and `De Wind Bleef'
for chamber ensemble.
Her music is mostly melodic. She tries to translate emotions into music, using
nature and the elements as a source of inspiration. Norbert encourages
Willy-Els to write the music the way she wants to, without being bound by too
many rules.
